Kopf des Nikias r. mit Haarband//Kopf des Asklepios r. mit Haarband. Hoover 1330 (ohne diesen Magistraten); RPC 2726. RR Kl. Kratzer, sonst vorzüglich Exemplar der Auktion Triton III, New York 1999, Nr. 774. Nikias war ein Tyrann auf Kos, der offensichtlich im Bürgerkrieg auf der Seite des Marcus Antonius stand. Seine Herkunft ist unklar, Inschriften bezeichnen ihn als "Sohn des Damos (Demos)", also des personifizierten - und auch als Gott verehrten - Volkes. In diesem Sinne ist auch das Haarband zu verstehen, das auf seine Göttlichkeit verweist. In augusteischer Zeit kam es zur Zerstörung des Grabmals des Nikias und zur Schändung seiner sterblichen Überreste.
